BioTissue’s Sharing Miracles and Legacy Donor Services Collaborate to Celebrate National Donor Day

Red Carpet Movie Screening Event Highlights the Impact of Organ Donation

MIAMI, March 25, 2024—To encourage mothers to donate birth tissue for the restoration of sight and health, and to express gratitude to those who have already contributed, Sharing Miracles collaborated with Legacy Donor Services to co-sponsor an exclusive movie premiere event in honor of Donate Life America’sNational Donor Day. The annual observance is dedicated to spreading awareness and education about organ, eye, and tissue donation.

The event brought together more than 50 Donate Life state team members, donor families, organ and tissue recipients, local media, and BioTissue employees for an exclusive red-carpet movie screening of “Ordinary Angels.” The film, starring Hilary Swank, is based on a true story highlighting the importance and the gift of organ donation. The event took place at Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas located in CocoWalk in Miami.

“Birth tissue donations hold the power to transform lives,” said Julie Caldro, Senior Director of Tissue Procurement, Sharing Miracles. “We are thankful for the invaluable contributions of mothers—who truly make our work possible—and for our partnership with Legacy Donor Services for their tireless commitment to raising awareness of this important cause.”

Sharing Miracles was established to provide a dedicated, supportive, and comprehensive program for birth tissue donation, ensuring proper stewardship of the gift. BioTissue is a pioneer in the application of cryopreserved human birth tissue products to support regenerative healing of ocular surface disease and in surgical, chronic wounds, and musculoskeletal conditions.

Together with Chris Agle, President and COO of Legacy Donor Services, BioTissue’s President and CEO Ted Davis delivered the event’s opening address, emphasizing BioTissue’s distinctive approach to deriving its products from the amniotic tissue donated by mothers after a healthy live birth. He also expressed gratitude to donor families and emphasized the significance of organ and tissue donation in regenerative healing.

“Elevating awareness and education on National Donor Day is important, but it’s equally vital to do so every day,” said Davis. “We value the collaboration of partners like Legacy Donor Services and are grateful to Donate Life America for providing us with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.”
