Minimize Scars, Maximize Healing
BioTissue as a surgical wound barrier
BioTissue in Reconstructive Plastic Surgery
BioTissue’s human birth tissue allografts can be used as a barrier to help support a regenerative healing environment in surgical wounds by:
- Managing scarring and adhesion formation
- Modulate inflammation
- Expediting functional recovery
Birth Tissue Applications to Improve Cosmesis and Functional Recovery
Split-Thickness Skin Graft vs. Human Birth Tissue Application
Split-thickness Skin Grafting (STSG) is a classic example where complete, functional healing can be challenging.
The forearm case on the right shows a comparison between a BioTissue human birth tissue application on the volar side (FIG. 1A) vs. a dorsal split thickness graft (FIG. 2A). Both the STSG, and birth tissue allograft wound sites, achieved closure within 2.5-months post-op. However, the medial side of the arm, where the allograft was utilized, showed a return of hair growth and normal sensation, without significant contracture (FIG. 1B), whereas the area covered by the STSG did not (FIG. 2B).

Clarix 1K for Orbital Floor Fracture Repair
Patient presented with a right tripod fracture and orbital defect greater than 5mm with mid-right cheek laceration and soft tissue defect. Clarix 1K was applied as an adjunct over the hardware after fracrture repair. One week post-surgery patient presented with minimal periorbital swelling and minimal ecchymosis.

Clarix® 1K for Ischemic Necrosis of the Nipple-Areola Complex
Two weeks after undergoing a secondary augmentation mastopexy, the patient’s left NAC had advanced to necrosis with full-thickness skin loss of the NAC. Four weeks after the secondary augmentation mastopexy procedure, the necrotic portion of the NAC was debrided, and a Clarix 1K cryopreserved amniotic membrane allograft was applied to help expedite healing. Patient healed fully in 15 weeks.
