Prokera®

prokera

Prokera® biologic corneal bandage devices are used by eye doctors around the world to heal and treat ocular conditions such as keratitis, moderate to severe dry eye disease, recurrent corneal erosions, filamentary keratitis, persistent epithelial defects, neurotrophic corneas, herpetic ulcers, and many other ocular surface diseases such as chemical burns and Stevens-Johnson syndrome. The PROKERA family of products – Prokera Slim, Prokera, Prokera Clear and Prokera Plus reduce inflammation, prevents scarring and simultaneously promote regenerative healing of the ocular surface.

Natural, Therapeutic Healing

The amniotic membrane tissue in Prokera products, which is preserved using the Company’s proprietary CRYOTEK® processing method to ensure the tissue retains its full biologic activity, has natural properties that help damaged eye surfaces heal. Prokera products promote faster and more effective healing of the cornea with less inflammation and scarring, leading to improved clinical outcomes with better vision.

The Healing Process

Prokera biologic corneal bandage devices are safe and effective with no risk of intraocular pressure (IOP) spikes or delayed healing that can be found in topical steroids. Prokera products can be inserted in the doctor’s office, or may be inserted in a surgical or hospital setting in conjunction with other procedures.

Prokera products can also be used in combination with topical agents.

Prokera products reduce inflammation, scarring and promote healing of the ocular surface. Whether managing disease, trauma, or post-operative care, healing of the ocular surface is of paramount concern because it directly affects your patient’s comfort and appearance, and most importantly their vision.

Prokera® and Patient Management

A tape-tarsorrhaphy (as needed) over the lid crease, narrows the eye opening, keeps Prokera® centered & minimizes discomfort. Exposure may also cause undesirable thinning of the amniotic membrane tissue.

Follow-up Care

  • Prokera® Membrane dissolves as healing occurs
  • Fluorescein may be used directly with Prokera® in place to check healing
  • Intraocular pressure can be measured directly via Tonopen(R/TM)
