
Robert Schultze, MD
Dr. Robert Schultze serves as Professor of Ophthalmology & Director of Cornea, Cataract, and Laser Vision Correction Surgery at the Albany Medical Center Department of Ophthalmology Lions Eye Institute. He is a board certified, fellowship-trained cornea specialist maintaining full-time tertiary referral practice with emphasis on medical & surgical eye diseases including LASIK, cornea transplant, and cataract surgery. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate from the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Schultze received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in 1994 where he was distinguished with the Lamport Biomedical Research Award.
Upon completion of residency, Dr. Schultze furthered his education with specialty fellowship training in Cornea, External Disease, & Refractive Surgery at the Albany Medical College. He currently serves as Director of the Cornea & Refractive Surgery Fellowship Program and has served as Program Director of the Albany Medical College Ophthalmology Residency Program as well as Director of Medical Student Ophthalmology Education.
Dr. Schultze is an expert in the latest cutting-edge techniques in corneal & refractive surgery. He was one of the first surgeons in the world to perform partial thickness transplant surgery in 2001 and has been invited to participate in several national multi-center dry eye studies. Numerous residents, fellows, and established regional surgeons have come to observe Dr. Schultze operate and share his expertise. In addition, Dr. Schultze serves the American Board of Ophthalmology as a Committee Chair working to develop & administer the board certification exam designed to test the competency of all new eye surgeons.
